A father wanted to read a magazine but was bothered by his daughter, Vanessa. Finally, he tore out a page with a printed map of the world, &  tore it into small pieces. He told Vanessa, Go into the other room & see if you can put this together. She returned in a few minutes. The surprised father asked how she had finished so quickly. She said, On the other side of the paper is a picture of Jesus. When I got all of Jesus back where He belonged, then the world came together.

Devils Beatitudes:

Blessed are those who are tired, busy, or distracted to spend an hour once a week with their fellow Christians - they are my best workers.

Blessed are those Christians who wait to be asked & expect to be thanked - I can use them.

Blessed are the touchy who stop going to church - they are my missionaries.

Blessed are the troublemakers - they shall be called my children.

Blessed are the complainers - Im all ears to them.

Blessed are those who are bored with the ministers mannerisms & mistakes - for they get nothing out of his sermons.

Blessed is the church member who expects to be invited to his own church - for he is a part of the problem instead of the solution.

Blessed are those who gossip - for they shall cause strife & divisions that please me.

Blessed are those who are easily offended - for they will soon get angry & quit.

Blessed are those who do not give their offering to carry on Gods work - for they shall be with me forever.

Blessed are you who, when you read this think it is about other people & not yourself - Ive got you too!

Book Suggestions!!!!

Fr Mike finds this book good enough to recommend to others.

Adult education is very important. Pick up a book on our Catholic experience & learn more about what it means to believe in Jesus & the Church.

I re-read every two years is The Church in the Midst of Creation, by Vincent J. Donovan, Orbis Press. I first read it in 1989 and it changed my whole perspective on Church in the modern world. I read it now to keep me focused on the mission of Jesus and the Church. The book takes us from the moment of the early Church to the present. It speaks the language and ideas of Vatican II. Some predict the church may die (and it could if we are not open to the Spirit); this book speaks of a Church that is only beginning to be born. It is a wonderful and hopeful book ($12.95). It can be ordered through the parish office.

Whole Communitv Catechesis in Plain English, Bill Huebsch. This is an easy-to-read, short book (100 pages). The idea for the whole community is drawn from the consideration of the way Jesus taught, the teachings of Vatican II, the General Directory for Catechesis, as well as the growing consensus in the catechetical community that the "school-house" framework lacks elements essential to catechesis. Bill was sponsored by the archdiocese in the Waterloo area in January. Those who attended the conference were very positive. Now you can read what he shares. There are also some clever cartoons in the book. The cost is $11 .00 and you can order it by calling the parish office.
