Brian Birgen called meeting to order. The meeting was then turned over to BHM Architects John Mahon & Mark Miller.

Building Drawings / Site Plans:

John and Mark provided a new 7th set of drawings (ref. Scheme MP-34), which illustrates various options for seating in the Nave as well as exterior drawings with various window configurations. Following is a brief breakdown of the drawings.

Floor Plan Drawings:

Scheme 34       First Phase Worship & Gathering space with total seating capacity of 840.  No changes from previous drawings.

Scheme 34       Master Plan with Nave - seating for 1448, Gathering Space and Hall.

Scheme 34A    Master Plan with Nave - seating for 1336, Gathering Space and Hall.

Exterior Drawings:

There were several drawings issued. The drawings illustrate optional locations for the campanile (Bell Tower) where it is also shown at different set directions and locations to show what would be illuminated stain glass windows. Other drawings included options concerning sky lighting, the styles of windows and trims as well as the Rose stain glass window that could be used in the first phase for the Gathering Space and Hall.

Building Property:

Chris Foy developed a document called a Memorandum of Understanding for the parties of John and Lelah Anhalt, St. Mary Catholic Church and the City of Waverly. Copies were handed out to the committee members for review. If you did not get a copy by e-mail and wish to have one, you can pick one up from Kraig Pfiffner at the Parish Office. This document clearly defines the following:

  • Description of Anhalt Land

  • Easement for Utilities

Sequence of Events Policy:

On October 1, 2002, Archbishop Hanus promulgated updated policies for the Archdiocesan Building Commission, which will guide new construction and major renovation projects in the archdiocese. Therefore, The Church Design & Renovation Commission (CDRC) requires representatives from our Building Committee and the Architects to attend their meetings and submit updated reports and drawings regarding our building project.

The next meeting will be held March 14th or 17th. The meeting place is still yet to be advised. Fr. Mike and or Kraig Pfiffner as well as the Parish Council and Building Committee Chairs along with a couple of parishioners will be needed to attend. A brief presentation will be required to explain why we need and are pursuing a new Parish Center. Please let Brian Birgen know if you would like to attend this meeting.

Meeting Adjourned: 9:00 PM

Next Meeting: Thursday, March 27th, 7:00 PM at Marian Hall. .

Questions

and answers from the Building Committee.

When we do go ahead & build the new church, how many building phases will there be?

Much depends on how much money can be raised initially through a capital campaign fundraiser. At this point in time, there is a need to build in two phases starting with a gathering space & hall that can be used for worship, education, dinners, etc. The second phase would be the main nave of the church.

Building Fund balance:
                 $460,707.99

Parish Vision for the Future

We, the people of St. Marys, are a parish of believers, 850 families form a geographic area ranging from Clarksville to Readlyn, from Plainfield to Sumner, from Waverly to Waterloo. We are farmers, laborers, students, retirees & professionals. We value hard work, honesty, commitment & quality. In all our diversity we are united in the strength of our faith, & as a result of that living faith we are growing. We recognize the need to look to the future while building on our past. Our hope is for a church & parish center that both serves our faith & allows us to grow.

We wish to pass on our faith & the faith of our ancestors to our children & grandchildren. We will continue to reach out across generations from the newly baptized, to the students at Wartburg, to the middle aged wage earners, to the elderly at Bartels. We are a part of the continuing ecumenical spirit that unites our towns. Our dream will be a welcoming home for new & old members from each of the many communities that are an important part of our parish life.

When our ancestors relocated from the first church to our current structure, they saw fit to build a worship space that would last for numerous generations. We must be true to that foresight as we again look to the future of our parish. Our building should be an expression of the Churchs teachings on the stewardship of our natural resources & of our appreciation for the bountiful gifts God has entrusted to us. This structure should represent a blending of the vibrant diversity of our colleges, towns, & small rural communities. Our church must be beautiful, yet functionalworthy of the Honor & Glory to God by all who worship with us.
