For those who leave Mass early: The Mass does not truly end until the end of the last song. By leaving early you are being disrespectful to the gathering of the faithful & also you are setting a bad example for our young people. The few extra minutes are important. Is one hour too much to ask? The Mass is a banquet; it is not meant to be a eat-and-run meal.

Requirements for couples wanting to

get married at St. Marys:

  1. One or both parties be a baptized & active Catholic.
  2. One must be a registered member of St. Marys Parish or a daughter/son of a St. Marys parishioner. If latter, the young person must also be a registered member of a Catholic parish where he/she resides.
  3. Must check with parish office at least 6 months before date of marriage.
  4. Must participate in all pre-marriage preparation programs.
  5. Need to see the wedding service as a sacrament; therefore, we need to follow the liturgical guidelines for weddings.

Liturgy News

Baptisms: Just a reminder, we do not celebrate baptisms during Lent in observance of the season, which is Mar. 8-Apr. 12. Our next Baptism class is June 10, so please plan accordingly. Call the office to register for the class or to schedule a baptism.

Something to think about - Lay Ministry: The next 3-yr. program begins Sept 2003 in Marshalltown. We are the people of God called by baptism to share fully in the mission of the Church to teach, to serve, & to sanctify by transforming the world. Informational meeting Apr. 8 or 10, Waterloo. Brochures on our magazine rack.

Ministers needed for Ash Wednesday! Eucharistic ministers (who will also distribute ashes), lectors, commentators, Mass servers, & ushers for 5:30 pm & 7pm. Sign up on the bulletin board or sacristy.

Just a reminder - missalettes are available at the main entrance of church.

During the Liturgy of the Word, the assembly listens. Not reads, listens. Here and throughout the liturgy, except when a hymn is to be sung, there is no need for anything in our hands. That is what the assembly has to do to support the lector & the presider: give them our eyes, sign of our full attention. Very much is expected of the assembly: some of it spoken, some sung, some just in the eyes, some in the whole body. It makes all the difference.
